Love never fails. I didn’t really grasp that scripture until last year. Yeah, I heard it in church meetings and stuff, but I didn’t really see anyone that I knew apply it.
But LOVE NEVER FAILS hit me like a ton of bricks in 2008. You see, my husband came home one evening and said that he wasn’t in love with me anymore. Ouch! As a woman, when a man says that, it hurts our soul. It goes deeper than any man can image. Women live on words by nature. So when your husband says that, all sorts of feelings come up that you can not control. So here comes the Jezebel mouth… oh my goodness, my 18 months of coaching sorta went out of the window.
I suggested that we get a divorce instead of separating. Of course I have to push it, right. At the end of the evening neither of us slept well. That evening was the start of a roller coaster ride that neither one of us will ever forget.
During this time period, I had been under the mentorship of Dr. Lavonne Atnip for over 1 year. My business coach had recommended her for personal development and marriage counseling.
I called Dr. Lavonne the next morning and let her know what happened. She walked me through a few special things that she does and I was able prepare myself for the future of living single again.
Although I felt some sort of way in the beginning; as time went on with Dr. Lavonne’s coaching- It didn’t seem so bad after all. I forgave him in my heart, loved him where he was (he’s certainly loved me where I was before), and helped him prepare for his new apartment that he was moving into. It actually was like old times when we were dating each other when we lived in New York. We had a blast shopping and getting everything ready for his new place.
Lo and behold, we fell back in love again. We stopped the divorce the Monday after he moved out, and he started coaching with Dr. Lavonne with me. It was an experience and scary at the same time, knowing that we were inches from falling off the cliff of “The Divorce Zone” like so many couples.
Christ and Dr. Lavonne’s advice was with me during the whole thing. I do have to thank God for sending her in my life. The old Tammy would have been divorced and would have hated men for the rest of my life.
Thank you Dr. Lavonne for showing me how Love Never Fails.
